Each week, Nick Thomas picks one or more songs that are from bands we all know, but the songs are ones that we don’t hear on the radio. As much as he likes finding those great but obscure songs, sometimes he needs a little help from his friends! If you have a suggestion for a "Nick’s Pick" let him know what you’d like to hear by leaving a comment, then listen to the Basement Tapes on K-KID 92.9fm LIVE on Sunday nights at 7pm Central if you’re in the local listening area. If you’re outside K-KID’s broadcast area, you can always listen to Nick’s Picks on the re-broadcast of the show online at Insane Realm Radio every Thursday night at 7pm Central time.
May 5, 2013 – Russ Rodenizer on the Basement Tapes with Nick & Bootsy
We first met Russ in his role of lead guitar/lead vocals for Ten Down, a hard rockin’ band from the St. Robert and Lake Ozark areas of Missouri. He has since started exploring a solo project he calls, aptly enough, The Russ Rodenizer Project. This is what Russ says about the project on Facebook:
“A life’s worth of music is in this mind of mine. So many songs, some recorded in full, and some just ideas recorded on the various cell phone’s I have had over the years. These songs along with the new material I create daily will be given Life through this page. I will be sharing some of the behind the scenes of how I take a song from the intial idea, through the demo recording, the listening/critique phase, and the final re-tracking to earn the song it’s right to be on the Full Length Album that this page will be instrumental in the creation of. I expect there will be a variety of song styles, or sub-genres that will ultimately find a home here, but do expect that the heavier side of my style will be a prominent feature. I want the world to feel what I felt when I created these songs, and hope that I can relay the emotion/mood within the music. I am excited…. I have put this off for far too long due to the responsibilities of life, my desire to be a provider for my family, and the instinct I have to be a hands on father. I want to make my family proud, and leave a mark on any that find my music worth a listen. I hope that I can earn some time with your ears.”
Nick and Bootsy go to see Tommy Castro in St. Louis and Chemically Imbalanced in Rolla
At the last minute, Nick decided to take a road trip to see one of our favorite bands: Tommy Castro & the Painkillers. We’ve been following Tommy since I heard the song, Had Enough, on the radio a couple of years back. I called my friend and fellow Diezelfitter bandmate, Eric Richards (he also works […]
